The quirky characters from my first novel won’t leave my head, so I am working on a sequel. It’s early days, but I feel whole again now that I am listening to them and writing.
I frequently heard authors say that their characters drive the plot and that they, the author, are not always in control of where things go. As a former non-fiction writer who relied on creating article outlines to conduct my research for articles and books, this concept was beyond comprehension. But when I began writing, my characters showed themselves to me, and off we went on a wild ride of funeral planning, dead bikers, drunk emcees, and seniors craving a life on the edge.
But they weren’t done with me or each other, so now we are off on another wild ride. Who knows what will transpire? Not me, that’s for sure. All I know for sure is that Aislin and Sarah are drawn into planning a flashmob funeral.
